L081, L085, L177, L081 Gold Nugget Plecostomus - Baryancistrus sp
Probably one of the most popular fancy plecos in the hobby. It is beautiful, rare but less expensive than others. A favorite from Brazil, we are happy to once again offer the hard to find Gold Nugget Pleco
Somewhat territorial towards other species, and very aggressive to other Gold nugget Plecos. A strong grazer, the Gold Nugget Pleco will scrape a varied diet off decaying organic matter on riverbeds such as larvae, invertebrates and eggs.
In captivity, requires Bogwood or rock caves for hiding, and meaty foods. To balance their diet, cucumbers will do well since gold nuggets do not accept all kinds of vegetable foods. They will not eat live plants in the aquarium.
The Gold nugget, vary a little bit depending on the location on the river they are collected and their age. These morphs are known, often not without disagreement, as L018, L085, L081 and L177. The main noticeable difference, is the size of the spots, but all are very similar (indistinguishable by the untrained eye).
