The Freshwater Barracuda / Dog Characin
3 Acestrorhynchus falcatus 3-4" at Only $25 each.
The Freshwater Barracuda, also known as The Red Tail Barracuda, Spotted Cachorro or Amazon Cachorro. It is an ominous looking fish with a long, slender, silver body and a bright red tail. The resemblance to the Oceanic Barracuda is quite obvious. A true rarity in the aquarium trade.
With large sharp teeth, it is a relative of both the piranha, and tetras. A vicious predator, the barracuda should have plenty of open swimming space as well as some driftwood to soften the water (low Ph). It can be housed with other aggressive fish of similar size, but may eat many smaller fish.
The Barracuda should be fed a variety of preferably live meaty food such as small crustaceans and fish (it can be trained to take artificial foods).
